Since 2014 the South West Development Commission (SWDC) have been developing the Transforming Bunbury’s Waterfront Project to deliver a world class waterfront providing a major destination for locals and visitors that extends from Koombana Bay in the east to Casuarina Boat Harbour and the Bunbury Outer Harbour to the west.
The project will provide landscaped community spaces, foreshore commercial and residential developments, a thriving marine precinct and a redevelopment of the Dolphin Discovery Centre. The redevelopment of the Koombana Bay Foreshore is the first stage of this significant project for Bunbury and will create a regionally significant coastal recreational area within the Greater Bunbury region.
Apparatus prepared the Koombana Bay Interpretation and Public Art Plan for the City of Bunbury as part of the Cardno design team for the Koombana Bay Foreshore Detailed Design (Civil & Landscape works) project.
Stories of the Wardandi Noongar community played a major part in the Interpretation and Public Art Plan as did the story of the shipwrecks in the sand; this small bay holds the remnants of 13 ships blown ashore in north-westerly gales, now hidden underneath the beach foreshore.
