Creative Production Teams – Call for EOIs – Lakelands Station

Creative Production Teams are invited to submit an Expression of Interest (EOI) to develop public artworks for Lakelands Station.

Public artwork at Lakelands Station will provide a human interface to the essential rail infrastructure. The artworks will deliver a public realm experience that is developed in partnership with the local community, for the local community, collaborating with and acknowledging First Nations People and their connection with the site.

The artwork opportunity for Lakelands Station is a community approach with the outcome being the integration of meaningful artwork into the built form and public realm of the station.

The Creative Production Team may include any professional working in the field of design for the public realm, this may include visual artists, interpretative designers, writers, CALD artists, emerging artists and/or artists local to the Mandurah community.

The artwork for Lakelands Station is required to include the use of Binjareb / Noongar cultural material. To ensure cultural safety, the team must include a Binjareb / Noongar Artist.

The new Lakelands Station is a PTA/METRONET project that will include passenger parking, kiss and ride area, bus interchange and lockable cycling storage. Lakelands Station will be accessed off Lake Valley Drive, with upgrades to part of it to allow for extra traffic movements in the area.

In January 2021, ADCO Constructions was awarded the contract to design and build Lakelands Station. APPARATUS is working in collaboration with ADCO and the station design team to plan and coordinate the artworks on site.

The Lakelands Station precinct has been designed by a project team including DesignInc (station architects), Emerge Associates (landscape architecture and sustainability), Yunga Foundation (Aboriginal development and consultation), and Apparatus (public art).

The creative production team, will collaborate closely with the project design and construction teams to integrate the artworks into the public realm design and deliver them within the proposed program.

An important component of this project is the active engagement of the local community through facilitating workshops with a local school or community group and Winjan Aboriginal Corporation. These workshops will positively influence the design outcome of the project.

EOIs are due by WST 2pm Tuesday 11 January 2022.
