Call for Noongar Artist EOIs – One The Esplanade

Public artworks at One The Esplanade will deliver a comprehensive public realm experience, enhancing the architectural and landscape design of the development.
The Activation Artwork will provide Whadjuk Noongar presence, and activate the area fronting onto The Esplanade.
The artwork will tell a Whadjuk story in sculptural form, enlivening the building at pedestrian level; creating intrigue and appeal.
APPARATUS is seeking Noongar artists interested in being part of a design assist process to develop this new artwork.
The artwork will be recognisably Noongar in design and sculptural in form, possibly including inscribed element in the ground plane.
The artwork will be located along the northern edge of the building and is expected to have a subtle presence by day and be lit by night.
The intention is for the Activation Artwork to tell the Whadjuk Noongar story Gudjaa Ngunii Koorndaam (Two Brother’s Dreaming). The cultural content, Gudjaa Ngunii Koorndaam, has been determined and will be provided to artists during the Design Workshops.
This EOI is open to all Noongar Artists – emerging, re-emerging and established.
The Design Assist process has been developed to allow Noongar artists who have great art and design skills but might not have public art experience to gain experience in public art.
The process will provide skills development for Noongar artists and secure the highest quality outcomes for the project.
The Noongar artist/s, will be assisted throughout the project by a APPARATUS Art Consultant, a Lead Designer and specialist collaborators from other disciplines.
Three artists will be selected to develop a Concept Design, inclusive of a two day Design Workshop. The selected Artists will receive a fee of $3,000 (excl. GST).
One Artist’s Concept Design will be selected to be developed into an Artwork. The awarded Artist will participate in the Design Development, Documentation, Fabrication and Installation of their artwork.
The Selected Artist will receive a fee of $22,000 (excl. GST) and professional photos and video documentation of the project. This procurement method welcomes any and all Noongar artists to apply.
You don’t need to have had previous public art experience.
